Editing natural language text

Users can freely add and edit natural language text and clauses in the contract editor. The new editor's formatting toolbar allows for a much wider range of formatting options. Select the piece of text you'd like to format, and then click the icon which corresponds to the style you'd like to apply. Follow these same steps to remove formatting.

Editing Smart Clause parameters

The new editor guides users in editing Smart Clause parameters. Parameters are displayed in a teal color, making them visually distinct from the rest of the Smart Clause text. The editor prevents the user from changing Smart Clause text around the parameters and only allows the user to update the parameters themselves. Debugging parse errors

With the improvements to parameter editing listed above, it is much more rare that a user will cause parse errors when editing a template. However, it is still possible.

For example, the Acceptance of Delivery template expects the number of business days to be represented by a data type of "long integer". If we pass a value of ten instead of 10, we will cause a parse error, since ten is not a valid long integer. When this happens, you'll see a pop up on the bottom of the screen displaying "1 Error". Click this dialog to expand the error message and see the message that is returned from Cicero/Ergo. Once you fix the error, this error pop up will again disappear.

We plan to continue to improve the parameter editing experience to better help users edit parameters of different data types.

Navigating your contract

The new editor features a navigation view on the left hand side of the page. This allows the user to easily see the headings and Smart Clauses contained within their contract. Clicking on a heading or Smart Clause name will cause the editor to scroll and bring that section or clause into view.



Using the legacy contract editor

For now, Clause users can still use the legacy contract editor if they wish. Once you've been added to the private beta, you will see the following options in your contract dashboard. Clicking "Create New Contract" will open the new editor, where you will be able add Cicero 0.20 templates to your contract. If you wish to use earlier versions of templates with the old editor, please select "New contract with legacy editor".

Additionally, contracts created via file upload will continue to use the legacy editor during the beta period.

Public Beta, January 6th 2020: all customers have access to the new contract editor and Cicero v0.20 templates. You may continue to use templates that require an earlier version of Cicero in the legacy contract editor.

General Availability, February 3rd 2020: all customers must use the new contract editor and Cicero v0.20 templates. Existing custom 0.13 format templates will no longer be supported for new contracts. Existing running contracts will be unaffected.
